Actor Peter Greene, widely recognized for his performances in Pulp Fiction and The Mask, was discovered dead inside his Lower East Side apartment on Friday. He was 60.

Law enforcement sources confirmed that officers responded to a ground-floor apartment on Clinton Street near Stanton Street after concerns were raised by residents. Greene’s longtime manager, Gregg Edward, later confirmed that the actor’s relatives had been notified.

Concern raised after unusual activity

A neighbor said residents had noticed holiday music playing from Greene’s apartment for an extended period, which led building management to request a welfare check. A locksmith was eventually called to access the apartment, where Greene was found unresponsive.

Police arrived at the scene around 3:25 p.m. and confirmed the death of a 60-year-old man. No official cause has been released, and investigators have not yet stated whether criminal activity is suspected.

Manager remembers Greene’s talent and heart

Edward, who worked with Greene for over a decade, spoke emotionally about the actor’s legacy.

Edward described Greene as an exceptional performer with rare depth, adding that beyond his talent, he was someone who genuinely cared about the people around him.

Greene became especially known for playing intense and memorable characters, most notably Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. His film credits also include The Mask, The Usual Suspects, and Training Day.

Actor remained active before his death

Despite facing personal struggles earlier in life, Greene had recently been preparing for new roles. His manager revealed that the actor had been selected for an upcoming project featuring Mickey Rourke and was being considered for additional films.

Edward said Greene’s death came as a deep shock, noting that the actor remained physically active, traveled around the city by bicycle, and consistently showed resilience during difficult periods.

Greene had also been scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days to remove a non-cancerous growth near his lungs, though he was otherwise believed to be in stable health.

Investigation continues

Officials confirmed that the city’s medical examiner will conduct an examination to establish the exact cause of death, while authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Edward added that Greene had lived a remarkable life filled with experiences, often encouraging him to put those stories into writing through an autobiography.
